How did you get into painting :
I got into painting through covid - like everyone else - I was trying different ways to pass the time and I begun to really love the eclectic botanicals that I was creating. I never really thought about pursuing art, as I have always been a creative at heart! I love colour on the canvas and enjoy finding cohesive colour schemes, looking at how patterns can be in the simplest parts of nature.
Why do you use these materials:
I begin using the testing pots from Bunnings! I would tag along with anyone who was going there to see if there was any rejected paint pots and begun my collection from there! I really hate waste and believe things have purpose. I also love to reuse canvases, pine and other materials to create art!
What are your dreams as an artist and garden street:
My dream for my art is for people to see the beauty in the world through my eyes, capturing small parts of nature and bringing colour, love and joy to those who see it. I enjoy getting to know people, the types of colours they vibe with or colours that maybe meaningful to them and bring botanicals that represent parts of their lives to the platform. Garden street was an idea we had when our friend was renting a creative space on garden street and then it just snowballed from there. We would love for this to become more than just a dream - garden street is our creative outlet and we love it!
What is your relationship with Sarah and what’s that like ;):
My sister and I are so close!! She is definitely the extrovert and I’m the introvert haha! She is the ying to my yang though- we are quite different in personality, but I feel we fill in the areas that each other needs. Its great to have someone to bounce ideas off, give me creative direction when I’m stuck and she is definitely the engine in the garden street team!
What is your favourite thing to do besides paint:
I love my horses! I have two rescue race horses and I love that I have been able to give them a new purpose in life. I am definitely an animal lover and have a dog named George, who comes with me everywhere! I love to ride, camp and travel. I am also a music lover! I play guitar and piano to accompany myself singing. I have done weddings and events and truely love being a creative!
What are you painting now: I am painting a commission for a 30th birthday present! It is a surprise though so I can’t say much more!
What is your favourite flower and why:
I am a classic girlie - I love roses! And grew up with my grandfather having a rose garden, we would spend a lot of time roaming around the sweet-smelling beauties! But my favourite flowers to paint would have to be Australian natives! I can’t go past the colours and textures of our locals!
What is your favourite piece you have made:
My favourite piece would be my first! It’s probably one I will never part with - it’s the one that I painted over an old canvas and used whatever paint I could find and I just loved how it turned out! Repurposing at its best!
